Coaching Programme for Civil Services/ Competitive Exams (UPSC)


The Department of Political Science, St Aloysius College (Autonomous) organized Coaching Programme for Civil Services/ Competitive Exams (UPSC) on 28-6-2018 at 3 p.m. at Sanidhya Hall, Administrative Block. The Deputy Commissioner, Mr Sasikanth Senthil, IAS was the Chief Guest for the programme.

Mr. Senthil, in his address to the aspirants, relaxed the atmosphere by claiming that he was an average student and a perennial back bencher. He narrated his life story so that the aspirants could draw inspiration, strength and motivation. Mr. Senthil changed his job from IT to work in the field through teaching and interacting with varieties of people. This inspired him to take numerous attempts to finally crack the IAS at the fifth attempt standing 9th in All India. He emphasised that UPSC exam is only a reflection of the job one is upto. Therefore he explained four important qualities with personal examples: interest in everything; empathy for all; maintain anonymity in the job; and lastly bind it with courage.

Students put their numerous queries in the form of preparation and attempts, challenges, physique, academy at Mussorie, political pressure, barriers etc. Mr. Senthil answered these in a jovial, nonchalant and practical manner. His humility and openness drew a lot of admiration from the students and teachers.

During the programme, a Value Education Book (Module I & II) “Harmony with Life: Reflection for Positive Choices” which was compiled by Dr Rose Veera D’Souza, Dept. of Political Science was released.

Fr. Leo D’Souza the former Rector, Fr. Pradeep Sequeira Finance Officer, Dr. Alwyn D’Sa Director of Administration Block, Dr. Roseveera D’Souza HOD Dept. Of Political Science, and Mr. Alwin D’Souza Convener were present.
