National Conference n "Recent Innovation in Nanomedicine and Drug Delivery"

The DDU Kaushal Kendra of St Aloysius College (Autonomous), Mangaluru in association with Applied Science Departments organized a one-day National Conference on ‘Recent Innovations in Nanomedicine and Drug Delivery’ sponsored by ‘Star College Scheme’ of DBT Govt of India on 3rd September, 2018 at LF Rasquinha Hall, LCRI Block. Dr V Rajendran, Principal, Dr NGP Arts and Science College (Autonomous) Coimbatore, Tamilnadu and Dr M Vijaya Kumar, Vice Chancellor, Yenepoya University were the Chief Guests. Dr Ronald Nazareth, the Co-ordinator of Star College Scheme, Dr Adarsha Gowda present on the dais.

Addressing the gathering, Dr V Rajendran explained about nanomedicine and its uses in the field of drug delivery. Nanomedicine is a branch of medicine that applies the knowledge and tools of nonotechnology in the treatement of diseases. Nanomedicine is a key science of 21st century. It is a modern interdisciplinary science which was first established in the 90s of the last century and developed in the 20th Century. He urged the students to make the best use of this conference as the eminent speakers will give the in-depth details about nanomedicine.

Dr M. Vijaya Kumar, in his address explained about cancer and its treatment using nanomedicine. As a Vice-chancellor of Yenepoya University, he invited the participants to use the state-of-the-art laboratory and learn more as the University have a MoU with St Aloysius College (Autonomous). 

Rector, Rev. Fr Dionysius Vaz in his address, urged the students to develop curiosity and show interest in experimenting with things as this college has modern labs and make the best use of them. He wished the participants all the best.

Principal, Rev. Dr Praveen Martis said that, we are dealing with nano-medicine and nano-technology, there will be many more advances in the field of medicine and healthcare. He urged the students to make the best use of this conference.

Dr Rajkumar Banerjee, Principal Scientist, Applied Biology Division, CSIR Institute of Chemical Technology, Hyderabad delivered a lecture on ‘Nanodrug against Cancer’. Dr Ashwini Sharma, Department of Chemistry and Biology, IISER, Tirupati addressed on ‘Oligonucleotides from detection to therapeutics’. Dr Vathsala P.G, Principal Research Scientist, IISc Bangalore, spoke on ‘Combination Therapy for Malaria’ and Dr Geetha Balakrishna, Director CNMS, Jain University, Bangalore addressed on ‘Quantum Dot-bioprobes for Pathogen Detection’’.

More than 500 participants from various Colleges and Universities were participated in this conference.

Ms Shameena K.A of Department of Biochemistry welcomed the gathering. Dr Shreelalitha introduced the guests. M.Sc. Biochemistry student, Nidhi Hegde compered the programme. Convenor of the Programme, Dr Adarsha Gowda of proposed the vote of thanks.

The Valedictory function was held at 3:30 pm. Dr Geetha Balakrishna, Director CNMS, Jain University, Bangalore was the Chief Guest. Fr Leo D’Souza, Dr Adarsha Gowda, Ms Shameena K.A and Dr Ambarish CN were on the dais.
