They are also taught about Recruitment Strategies, Payroll Management Strategies, Employee Grievance Handling Strategies, Manning Standards, Career Graphing, Performance Appraisal, Human Resource planning and execution, Manager Job analysis/ Gap analyst, Employee safety administration, Retention strategies, Training Planning and execution, Statutory compliance management, Management of employee relation, Compensation and benefit administration.

Medical and Psychiatric Specialization:

Medical and Psychiatric Social Work Specialisation (MPSW), MSW department St Aloysius College, Mangalore is an important specialisation in MSW studies.

The students of this specialisation at St Aloysius College, Mangalore, are trained to equip themselves with the knowledge, skills and values necessary for effective practice towards promoting holistic health which includes Preventive, Promotive and Curative health.

The theoretical knowledge imparted through this specialisation is working with families, Working with Children, Therapeutic Counselling, Medical Social Work and Psychiatric Social Work. Our students are also trained into applying appropriate Interventions.

Medical and Psychiatric Social Work students of St Aloysius College, Mangalore, are placed in health settings for field training concurrent to theory as part of their curriculum and are involved in clinical Social Work Practice. They conduct Case Work, Group Work and awareness programmes through Lectures, role plays, skits etc. They are also exposed to various extension Lectures and skills workshop on important topics.

Recently MSW department, St Aloysius College, Mangalore, formed another association called “Anti-addiction Cell” which was started as part of the decennial celebration of the department, where the students (mostly Medical and Psychiatric Social Work) strive towards organizing preventive programmes for adolescents on Substance Abuse Prevention. They conduct participatory workshops for High School Students. The Objective is to enable them to be well motivated to say ‘no’ to drugs and also spread this message to others.

This Programme includes theory and practicum which will enable students to specialize in Community Development. In the III and IV semester students study the various issues related to rural, tribal and urban development, citizen participation in governance, and education for development. The focus has been also on the various target groups of society such as unorganized labourers, women, children, dalits, youth, farmers, poor, artisans etc. The specialization also aims at enabling organized effort for sustainable development and mobilizing the people to protect their human rights.

Field experience is an important part of the program in MSW department of St Aloysius College Mangalore. This training in the community setting helps students learn social work practice with an integrated approach. Students are placed in open communities where they themselves are involved in identifying the needs of the people, planning intervention strategies and implementing them. Central and State government projects for women, children, HIV /AIDS, rural poor, slum and tribal development, farmers, youth have been the greatest employers to community development experts.
