Dear parent,

1. Please understand that your daughter is in the stage of life of transition, a stage of crisis and opportunity.  Sometimes she behaves like a child but struggles to become an adult.  She likes her parents and the other authority figures, at the same time would like to be independent and demands autonomy.  She does not like too much interference or pampering from elders.  To be considered as a heroin is an attractive proposal to her.  Occasionally she seems to be contradictory to understand her struggle to become an adult.

2. Please understand that your daughter is under a lot of pressure from all sides.  Pressure from your high expectations of her, pressure of adolescence, kin group pressure, pressure of bodily awareness and romantic attraction, pressure caused by the media’s hidden persuaders and market forces. You need to be extremely compassionate and understand her fast changing moods and idiosyncrasies.

3. The Hostel has a Prayer Room.  Please enthuse your daughter to spend some time daily in the Prayer Hall.  The Catholic inmates have Holy Mass at 6.30 a.m. and Rosary at 7.30 p.m.

4. While mobiles are very convenient means for fast communication, they also might become a toy for entertainment and a lot of time would be wasted in the company of this toy.  Please communicate with your daughter between 7.30 to 9.00 p.m. Mobiles used during the study hours and in the rooms will be confiscated and will be given back only at the end of the term.

5. While you might be sending to your daughter the required amount to pay the monthly bills promptly, the amount may not be get paid to the office at all.  Please check in the office telephonically whether the monthly bills have been cleared. Please do not give too huge an amount as pocket money.  Demand accounts from your daughter for the amount given.

6. Please keep a track of her academic performance by checking in the college office about her marks.  Please do not blindly believe as certain what has been reported to you by her.  Trust your daughter fully, while at the same time keeping some space to nurse the suspicion about the relevant information withheld by her.

7. When you visit her in the Hostel, make it a point to meet the Director or the Warden.
