SAC CONDUCTS NATIONAL LEVEL CHEMISTRY FEST ANALYST – 2023

On April 25, 2023 the event ANALYST-2023, one-day national level intercollegiate fest for all the undergraduate and post graduate students of nationwide was inaugurated in the L. F Rasqinha auditorium, LCRI block, St Aloysius College (Autonomous), Mangalore. About 520 participants from 26 undergraduate and 13 post graduate colleges took part in the event. 

The first Vice Chancellor of Hassan University, Prof. T.C Taranath was the Chief Guest of the programme, Rev. Dr Praveen Martis SJ, the Principal of the college presided over the programme. The dignitaries on stage included Dr Richard Gonsalves, Director of LCRI Block, Dr Ronald Nazareth, the Head Department of Postgraduate studies and Research in Chemistry, Ms Jyothi Simav Vaz, Convener of the programme, Student Co-ordinators Ms Apeksha Rai and Mr Lopaz Lucka.

The event began with a prayer rendition by the team Chemistry and followed by a glorious welcome with a classical dance. Ms Jyothi Simav Vaz formally welcomed the gathering and set the right tune to the event.
The lighting of the lamp by the dignitaries rendered meaning to the theme Ignite, Innovate and Inspire. Analyst 2023 was inaugurated formally by unveiling of ANALYST Logo newly designed by the students of PG Chemistry.

The Chief guest, Prof T.C Taranath, honourable Chief Guest of the event, who is a well-known botanist and presently the Vice-Chancellor of Hassan University was honoured for his scientific research and contributions in the field of education. Overwhelmed by the gesture the speaker expressed his gratitude and addressed the gathering. In the inaugural address he said that “I am very happy to associate with St. Aloysius College (Autonomous) on this auspicious day of Inaugural of Analyst 2023. As we began the event by lighting the lamp, light symbolises knowledge and energy just as our source of energy is sun. Our parent mother earth has the composition of various elements. Core of earth includes the composition of nickel & iron. Due to the water on this earth, we call earth as blue planet. The water that we drink has compositions that includes various minerals. Our body is an ongoing biochemical reaction product with professionality of microorganisms. 
This diversity we share for billions of years. Man calculated age of rocks, and the gradual evolution of man is considered as virtue of his intellectual and communicative powers. Today India is self-reliant, self-dependent. In India the chemistry is called as Rasyana shastra. Even in ancient times, preparing the medicines according to traditional system existed from long back. And we have emerged from such times to modern times now”
The chief guest narrated the importance of the Alchemy with the background of long years. He said “The name alchemy is unique combination of philosophy & science. The progress throughout the years from Indus Valley civilization and Harappan civilization is tremendous. I appreciate the management and organizers of this event under the banner of Alchemy Association and congratulate all the students for their efforts and interest towards making basic science popular among students”

Meritorious students of the department of chemistry were honoured during the programme. These included the felicitation of Ms. Monica Mendonca for securing 10th rank in B.Sc. in Mangalore University Level, Ms Deeksha R for securing 3rd rank in B.Sc. in St. Aloysius College (Autonomous). 

The department of Chemistry being one of the oldest departments of the college, offers studies in Chemistry for both UG and PG Students. M.Sc Analytical Chemistry was started in the year 2007, has an excellent academic and placement record with proud alumni all over India and abroad. M.Sc Chemistry started in 2012 has established itself as another feather in the cap of the college. The PG department has been approved as a research centre affiliated to Mangalore University. Six faculty members from the department are approved as research guides under the Mangalore university.  

The scientific research and innovation wing of the college is equipped with advanced instruments for analysis and characterization. The advanced Instrumentation centre has the facilities like Infra-red spectrometer, Surface Area Analyser, Multi-lamp photocatalytic reactor, Gas Chromatography, X-ray diffractometer, Thermogravimetric Analyser, Electrochemical workstation and UV Spectrometer. With these instruments various organic and inorganic compounds as well as reaction methodologies can be tested and analysed with greater accuracy. These instruments have positively impacted the quality of research at St. Aloysius institution. 

The department has an excellent campus placement record. Reputed companies such as Apotex India Ltd, Syngene International, Biocon, Sequent Scientific, BASF India Pvt. Ltd., Cipla, Astrazeneca have visited the College for campus placements. 

Continuing the President of the event Rev. Dr Praveen Martis SJ, addressed the gathering and congratulated the department of PG studies and research for the wonderful programme. He shed light on the theme of the event “Ignite, Innovate and Inspire”, to ignite oneself with the aim to shine and inspire. Talking about the basic sciences the president motivated the young students to aim high and focus on research in basic sciences. 
Ms. Yuktha, department of PG Chemistry compered the programme. Ms. Apeksha Rai, Student coordinator proposed the vote of thanks.

Valedictory: The valedictory programme of ANALYST-2023 was held in the L. F Rasqinha auditorium, LCRI block, St Aloysius College (Autonomous), Mangalore at 3:45 pm. 

Dr Vishalakshi B, Professor and Chairman, Department of postgraduate studies and research in Chemistry was the Chief Guest of the programme, Rev. Fr Melwin Joseph Pinto SJ, Rector St Aloysius institutions, presided over the programme. The dignitaries on stage included Dr Richard Gonsalves, Director of LCRI Block, Dr Ronald Nazareth, the Head Department of Postgraduate studies and Research in Chemistry, Ms Jyothi Simav Vaz, Convener of the programme, Student Co-ordinators Ms Apeksha Rai and Mr Lopaz Lucka.
Ms Shreya Bhaktha, student of M.Sc Analytical Chemistry welcomed the gathering.

The Chief Guest Dr Vishalakshi B congratulated the department for the dedicated and committed work that led to the eventful day. She congratulated the college for the highest ranking that college received during the Fourth Cycle of NAAC accreditation. Dr. Vishalakshi inspired the student that students should be always alert, concentrate well, they should be always ready and should strive to attain supreme knowledge.

The president of the programme Rev. Fr Melwin Joseph Pinto SJ also was overwhelmed to see the numbers of participating colleges. Quoting the theme “Ignite, Innovate and Inspire”, the president motivated students towards team work and aiming for high. 

12 different events were conducted during Analyst-2023 for PG and UG streams separately. The events included Seminar, Documentary making, Trashion, Stand up comedy, Treasure Hunt, Face Painting, Collage, Video Juggling, Star of Analyst, Quiz, Chem Rangoli and Ice breakers. 

The Overall championship in PG section was won by SDM PG Centre, Ujire. The Overall championship in UG section was won by St Aloysius College (Autonomous), Mangalore.

Ms. Vincy, department of PG Chemistry compered the programme. Mr Lopaz Luka, assistant student coordinator proposed the vote of thanks.
