St Aloysius College celebrated Fr Leo's 90th Birthday

St Aloysius College celebrated the 90 years’ eventful life of a world renowned Jesuit scientist, Fr Dr Leo D’Souza on Monday February 28. Dr Leo D'Souza is the former principal, rector and director of Laboratory of Applied Biology.

Dr Leo D'Souza was felicitated by Dr Narayana Bhat, president, St Aloysius College Alumni Association, J S Stephen Pinto, behalf of retired staff, D'Souza family (Dr Nischith D’Souza, Dr Nameeth D’Souza) and bishop of Mangalore diocese, Dr Peter Paul Saldanha.

Bishop Dr Peter Paul Saldanha said, “Dr Leo D’Souza is an inspiration for all. He has guided many research scholars. He is known for his simplicity and humbleness. He has shared his knowledge with others and helped many become independent.”

Dr Leo D'Souza Staff Welfare Fund was launched by presentation of cheque of Rs 1 lack by his brother Austin D’Souza.
Bishop Dr Peter Paul Saldanha released a souvenir on the occasion.

Bishop of Shivamogga, Dr Francis Serrao raised the toast.

Addressing the gathering, Dr Leo D’Souza said, “I thank everyone for putting an effort in making this day memorable.”
Rector of St Aloysius College, Fr Melwin Pinto said, “Dr Leo D’Souza is a man of humanity. He has a very good sense of humour and loves to hear jokes on himself. He is such a person who shared knowledge for the betterment of several research scholars and the society.”

Prior to the felicitation programme, a thanksgiving Mass was held at St Aloysius College chapel.

Principal of St Aloysius College, Dr Praveen Martis welcomed the gathering, Arathi Shanbhag rendered the vote of thanks and Dr Lyned Daphny Lasrado compered the event.

Registrar Dr Allwyn D’Sa, Dr John D’Silva and others were present.
