St Aloysius (Deemed to be University) organised 144th Sports Day

St Aloysius (Deemed to be University) conducted their 144th Annual Athletic Meet on Thursday, February 8 in the Centenary Ground of the campus.

The event was inaugurated by Shreema Priyadarshini, an international athlete and a representative of the Indian Railways, who was also the chief guest of the program. She spoke about her sports journey, urging the students to achieve their goals and dreams.

Later, she declared the meet open.
In his presidential remarks Fr Melwin Pinto SJ, Rector, St Aloysius (Deemed to be University), said, “This would be the last sports day held in the Centenary Ground as in two years it would be converted into a synthetic track.” He mentioned that people planning for their post-graduate studies here would see this change completed.

Meanwhile, the oath taking ceremony was held.
The guests were introduced by Fr Dr Praveen Martis SJ, the Vice Chancellor-in-charge of St Aloysius (Deemed to be University), who said, “It is a nice coincidence that the institution has been awarded the title of Deemed to be University during the time of its 144th Annual Sports Meet.” He also mentioned that this would be the last sports day under the name of ‘St Aloysius College (Autonomous)’.

At this point in time, the best march-past teams, as per UG and PG divisions were conferred with prizes.
The vote of thanks was rendered by Dr Denis Fernandes, Director of the Arrupe block, after which all the teams dispersed.
